Configuring Gmail In Nokia 7710

Follow the following steps to configure gmail account in Nokia 7710

Step 1 : Hit the menu button and select messaging

Step 2 : Pop open the menu and select New mailbox... from Tools submenu option

[the "Mailbox setup" dialog box opens]

Step 3 : Hit the Next button

[the "Mailbox setup : Mailbox details" dialog box appears]

Step 4 : Enter the details as below

Mailbox name : <% Any_name %> preferably give Gmail for simplicity

[Note that this name will be displayed in your message window and will determine your gmail account in the Nokia 7710 User Interface]

Mailbox type: POP3 [Note: IMAP must NOT be selected]

[Note: you wont be able to change the mailbox type after hitting the finish button]

Now hit Next button

[the "Mailbox setup : User Details" dialog box appears]

Step 5 : Enter the details as below

Name : <% any_name%> preferably your name for simplicity

[Note that this name will be displayed on sent email message ]

User Name : <% your_email_ID %>

[Note : Specify your full email ID i.e. mailnendulal@gmail.com , DO NOT just secify mailnendulal ignoring the @gmail.com. Your mailbox will not be connected if you ignore @gmail.com]

Password : <% your_gmail_password %>

My e-mail address : <% your_emailID %>

[Note: Here also give the complete email ID]

Fault Practise: Usually all people tend to give just the username idnoring the "@gmail.com" which will never let them get connected to the gmail account. Its a good practise to enter the "User Name" field and "My e-mail address" field as the same string

Now hit the Next button

[the "Mailbox setup : Server Details" dialog box appears]

Step 5 : Enter the details as below

Incomming server (POP3) : pop.gmail.com

Outgoing server (SMTP) : smtp.gmail.com

[Note: DO NOT give http:// and all, keeps things very simple]

Now hit the Next buton

[the "Mailbox setup complete" dialog box appears]

Hitting the Finish button WILL NOT successfully retrive email to your Nokia 7710 set.

Remember : Hitting the Finish button will disable the Mailbos type option in the Step 4.

Review the settings before you hit the Finish button by navigating the Back button, in case any alterations perform it before you go ahead further. If all are perfect then click the Advance button.

DO NOT click Finish button now, remember that we need to set the port numbers as gmail is not running on the defaut ports for POP3 and SMTP servers.

Now hit the Advance button.

[the "Advanced e-mail settings" dialog box appears with four tabs namely Retrival, Sending, Outgoing Server and Others respectively ]

Step 6 : Hit the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" tab

check the "Authentication Required" option and fill the fields as you entered in Step 4

Step 7 : Navigate to "Others" tab

Enter the details as below

[ VERY VERY IMPORTANT make sure that "security" field is set to none in this step]
Security : None

Incomming e-mail port: 995

Outgoing e-mail port: 465

[ VERY VERY IMPORTANT Now change the "security" field to Secure port POP3S]

Note: Now setting the "security" field will disable the "Incomming e-mail port" field with the 995 port value set.

* - > This is the most important setting that you must take care of

Now hit OK button

[this will take you to the "Mailbox settup complete" dialogbox]

Now hit Finish button.

Great work buddy you have successfully configured your gmail in your Nokia 7710 mobile.

I myself had very hard time to guess the correct configuration. It was more than a trial and error method to do this successfully. So for all people who must have had bad time to configure gmail in the Nokia 7710 might be very much helpful.

Nokia 7710 Firmware:

Firmware is your phone's built-in software. Occasionally Nokia releases firmware updates for certain phone models.

When I bought my Nokia 7710 my firmware was 4.01 only, But now I have made it to be 4.10 and I tell you its looking great to use. Most of the softwareproblems are resolved and my mobile is working great than ever before. The majorproblem I faced was I lost all my data. I had to take backup of my mobile whichi dint care to do.

Before you are up to upgrade your Firmware I have a few things that you must note.

1) Hit *#0000# to find the firmware version.

[A new person will search for where to type these values. Very simple find
the telephone options from the menu and keep going that's it]

2) Take a complete backup of your mobile.

3) Thoroughly scan your data for virus

4) Note the ESN, ISN, Battery Identity [scratch the spot and note the numbers]

Virus scan is very very important because you may have it in your Nokia 7710 :-)

If you are running out of warranty rush to your nearest Nokia Service Center. If your warranty is expired then you must have to pay for your upgrades.

People find it uneasy to act faster. But its recommended that you go get done it faster as it can improve your performance of your mobile by much.

My sincere advice is to look after your mobile as your own wife. If you letit to someone and go away they will fuck it. There are every chances to changethe parts that you can never find it easier. So its advised that you remainwhere the process is going on and switch on and see whether all are working wellbefore you leave the service center.
Nokia has released a new firmware update for the 7710. Version 4.10.0 is now available. The official log of changes from 4.01.0 are

- One of the ‘My View’ options is to have the ‘Active Standby’ page appear with alternate taps of the desk key or icon. The ‘Active Standby’ page features a selection of four user-defined application icons, and displays the currently active profile, date and time on a user-defined background image. The user can also change the active profile directly from the ‘Active Standby’ view.

- New accessories supported

- HS-11W Wireless Headset

- Improved handling of low DVB-H network coverage situations.

- Mobile TV streaming is suspended when user switches to other application (frees up
processor memory for open application).

- Frame-freezing occurrences reduced

So the above details must have given you many reasons to upgrade your firmware. So don't look back for someone to take you. Better you could take someone for a better thing right today - Go upgrade your firmware buddy

Developing Themes and Symbian Application Themes Studio and .NET Technologies

Themes for Nokia 7710

Download Nokia 7710 themes from www.this.com, www.that.com, www.some.com, etc. is a stupid thing to do. You can create your own theme with ease. But if you have no creativity and you have not even 5 minutes time to create your own theme then you can go for http://www.nokiasoftwares.nl and download all themes [worst free themes] and pay dollars for themes [best themes].

Secret Of Nokia Themes Market

I will tell you one secret, there are many college students in most of the countries who download and buy themes. Some of the themes sell for more than $45. Most people don't know that themes can be created for free. Nokia 7710 themes can be created with a better user
friendlier user interface. All you have to do is to have a creativity in you mind about what you are about to design and a few tips about basic color combination [Recommended].

Search google for Theme Studio for Nokia 7710 and then go about downloading and installing it., But before you do it you need to have registered in Nokia Forum [FREE]. Again I would like to remind you if and only if you have time you can do it. Its a very big process and you need to
enter many forms and many post backs to update the details etc.

People who do many research on Nokia mobile really find the solution with ease. And in that occasion I am no way an exception.

For most of the trouble shooting regarding Nokia 7710
please find time to navigate to

Developing Symbian Application in .NET

I myself have had a very good experience creating themes using the Free Theme studio for Nokia 7710. I had a need to download the Nokia SDK for 7710 as I had to preview the theme before generating the Preview of the same.

I hereby recommend you to download the Nokia Theme creator and download the Symbian SDK and have more fun. Usually if you are a Java developer then these may really impress you by much. Most of the themes are dispatched with the .sis extension and being a Java developer you will have no third party tools requirement to develop and deploy your own
application for the new Nokia 7710.

And this is no joke ladies and gentle men, - I had people come along with me and ask me whether its Nokia N Series. I am trying to say that Nokia 7710 though it was announced by 2004 officially still it has the look and feel of the new N Series of today. The above statements may trigger your desires to buy the Nokia 7710 but the major limiting factor is that you must know how to troubleshoot the major issues that are the inherent issues with this Nokia 7710.

For most of the trouble shooting regarding Nokia 7710 please find time to navigate to

In case of .NET developer who ask me in community forum chats about C#.NET to developed and deploy .NET applications for Symbian. I hereby dedicate the following sections for such people But Java is the best for Symbian development as it has no third party applications that we need to rely on.

But there is no way lagging behind for .NET developer. I myself I am a .NET developer and I prefer C#.NET as a programming language. In that occasion i was not able to developed and
deploy my applications with ease. Doing more research on Google I found that the only best .NET mobile development Tools provides names AppForge Crossfire can be opted for developing and deploying application sin .NET technologies. But this option is no way out of limitations. The major limitation is that the mobile must have the AppForge Crossfire
framework to deploy the applications created in AppForge Crossfire tools. But for people who have more extensible space on their device memory have no looking behind and can really go for it. And most people do it.

But to get more results on AppForge Crossfire you need to search AppForge term instead of Crossfire.

AppForge Crossfire for .NET application development for Symbian OS

AppForge has support for more than 500 hand sets , transformation to native J2ME from Microsoft technologies, more inbuilt interfaces and I still remember the Blackberry Interface that impressed me by much and last but not the least debugging and previewing mobile
application in Desktop environments.

These tools are not with out limitations - the first and foremost limitation is that AppForge Crossfire deployed applications need the AppForge Crossfire client to be installed on mobile before you do anything to the dispatched .sis file. And I also need you to remember that AppForge Crossfire client is not one of the compact and small software that consumes a few KB of your device memory.

But still for .NET developer its more than anything that some one can provide for mobile application development. But these limitations are over weighted by the AppForge Crossfire advantages like it has unified industrial standards, better performance and rapid application development strategies than ever before. Then major self testimonial of the above statements
that better stay the proof for AppForge Crossfire success in market is its version. Now AppForge Crossfire is in its Version number 6.0, that means that AppForge Crossfire is a great success in industry. And if you see AppForge Crossfire's Mission statement you will understand that they have a very good competitive advantage amoung all .NET development SDKs available online.

So do not wait and lag behind. Go about downloading and installing Crossfire Now.

Most people have asked me for source code but I recommend them to download AppForge Crossfire to see the most comprehensive source code and workable and customizable code snippets etc.

Read the full story below:

Its OK now , I have finally found out
how a .mp3 file can be added as a ring tone to Nokia 7710. Many people
complain me that they are not able to add .mp3 files as ring tone to their
Nokia 7710. But I recommend you to go for an alternative approach.

Before that I also had another problem statement striking my email asking
for solutions- That's is no message alert tone in Nokia 7710. Even I have
resolved the issue in a better way. I am also discussing how to prevent the
message alert from not prompting when ever a message is received i your
Please note that these problems not only exist in Nokia 7710 but also
most of the Symbian 90 series UI Nokia sets.
So here is the solution straight away
It is open the music player from the menu.
Select the tool menu
Select set as ring tone
That's it.
Most of my friends who have bought Nokia 7710 go for profiles and in the
profiles they opt for personalize option. In some cases they are able to
easily send .mp3 as ring tone but in most of the cases they are not able to
find the .mp3 file. Hope this tip of setting .mp3 as ring tone helped you

Coming on to the next ring tone problem.

I myself had this problem and as a usual practice I performed a extensive
search on google to see its not just me who had the problem but there were
more people who already posted forum and had no reply back from forum. I sat
back and started monitoring all activates of my mobile. In one of the forum
I read that the message alert suddenly works good but suddenly it doesn't.
So i was waiting for my mobile to suddenly prompt me for incoming message
and that happened the next day. From the next day I was tracking each and
every activity of my mobile and came to a conclusion that if we recharge the
mobile by switching it on then the problem occures , BUT I WAS WRONG. Later
when i reported this to the Nokia service center they told me the process
flow that happens when a mobile recharges. Later on myself and some of my
close friends in Nokia service center took this issue in a better
comprehensive way and finalized that it was not a error that is rally an
issue. But I say its bad ergonomics.

Ergonomics is the science of work. Ergonomics removes barriers to
quality, productivity, and safe human performance by fitting products, tasks
and environments to people.

I personally called the Nokia customer service number and was engaged so
I was advised to drop a mail regarding this issue by my Nokia customer care
friends . So I send a mail to get a reply mail stating - "Please take
your mobile to the nearer Nokia customer service centre".
The next day I
again send another email regarding an issues that even I myself dint
understand what it was. I used very complex words and more technical terms
with all confusing grammar. I just read the email before I could send it to
Nokia Customer Care. It was absolutely confusing. No more explanation than
that. I send the mail to get again the same reply. Now again as a usual
practice researching on google I found that - "Please take your mobile to
the nearer Nokia customer service centre"
was the statement that all
customer service executives must reply back if they cant resolve the issue.

Any way Here is the solution only two times I faced message ring tone
problem. Form my experience I found that if you do not keep on changing the
profile now and then only then problem persist. In simple terms if you do
not change your profile frequently there is a problem of incoming message
not alerting you. So I have done a smart work. My office starts by 10 AM and
ends by 5 PM. So I set a timer in Nokia 7710, one of the best corporate
feature in my handset.

You can set your profile to change automatically
according to the time you set previously. I too did the same. I set timer to
change my profile now and then. After I did it I had no such problem with my

I hereby recommend you to set automatically change profile.

The following are the above steps.

Poornendulal Nokia7710

In the above link i have spoke infavour of Nokia 7710, but now its time to have some drawbacks. I am not able to set .mp3 formats as ring tone. But as i like one of the inbuilt .midi file i am satisfied. But people will always demand for more multimedia experience. This is noe of the major limitation that have been left out in most of the Nokia7710 reviews. So i take the previlage to inform you that this set has no support for .mp3 ringtone in personalising the profile.

Camera has only 2X Zooming with 3.2 Megapixel. I have upgrated my camera to 8X for my atisfaction now it is great. But if you cant afford upgrading your camera. Then i would recommend you to install photorite software that provides digital zooming i.e. Zooming implemented using software. But it is not the same performer as upgrading your camera. Upgrading your camera may cost you up to 1500. I bargained to pay only 200 less i.e. 1300. Any way now my mobile takes the great photos. But i wont tell that Nokia 7710 captured bad images before.

The clarity was really great and can be compared to the high resolution digital camera. There is a option available called Image Qulity, Set this attribute to high will make all your captured photo to the maximum file size with the best clarity. By default this will be set to normal, we must change to high for better quality. But remember to keep your cell with a nominal free space for RAM expansion while applications execute.

But above all these there is a major problem that i am not able to take it. That is my mobile is not alerting for message. I have checked with my profile, and all the settings are perfect but some expection is being occured. And when i send message i could feel the processing delay. I can declare that the Nokia7710 is a er slow mobile if you have more application, he next investment i am going to make in my mobile is that i am going to upgrade my RAM to a few space.

Today i was telling the clarity of my mobile to my collegue, i coined the term that i can edit the captured image. But when i tried the option for editing nothing poped up. I found the software problem again. After a restart the mobile was ready for editing the picture. And one of the paramounting drawback was the memory problem. Simply for no reason my mobile poped up ERROR: "No sufficient Memory - Close Open application". I switched all the applications but i dint find close or exit option for most of the application that were with the Nokia 7710 set model. For over comming this i installed program manager that can close all open applications. This time i have not seeing such message anymore.

I am resolving most of the errors that i come accross. I am planning to go to the nokia priority dealers and ask for the best nokia service centers in Chennai and i have decided to upgrade mu symbian OS version. I dont know whether i can instal it or not. The default OS version is Symbian 7.0, N90 UI, And i am planning to upgrade with Symbial 9.2, N93 UI, I feel that its impossible but i will better get a Nokia Service Consultant.

So my dear friends i will meet you in my next post with the best solution for the software problems of nokia 7710 model

Thanking you....

Poornendulal.V - Cyberviral

Thursday, August 10, 2006

My name is Poornendulal.V and I am working on Microsoft Dynamics technologies in a leading software company in India. As all of you even i had a dilemma whether to buy Nokia 7710 mobile or not. My phone comes in two colors according to nokia.com one is similar to coffee color and another is silver color. But in India I have also seen pure white color of the same modal. This is the mobile color I bought a few months before.

Features are

Large and high resolution display

The screen is too big such that if you attend a call your oily skin will make its display shine. In most cases your call may disconnect due to you accidentally tapping the touch screen with your cheeks.

Note: If you have a big ear and casual way to attend calls you must change your trend.

I have a Bluetooth connectivity hands free so it has added to my satisfaction in using this mobile. Buy a Bluetooth hands free also to have great fun on the fly the ad hoc manner.
Excellent for browsing the Internet with Flash 6 support
The browsing is great. It opens the complex scripts and even secure SSL and HTTPS websites. If you are a hacker you can opt his modal. Its difficult to trace the connection settings. If you are a Pre-Paid customer its an added advantage. You can throw the SIM card and buy another

Quality sound

Do not keep your ears near the speaker. Your ears may damage. Its not joke its true , it has the excellent sound that no Sony or hi-fi radios can match. The loud speaker mode in attending call is great. It gives the clear amplification of on to one communication. Conference calls up till 6 is possible. The recommended is 5 conference call members. The phone can withstand till 6 conference calls that we friends made in our office.

Great for playing video

Video playback when switching from full screen to normal screen gives a pause and resume unpleasant effect. But it is not obvious because the great video quality and playback volume carries people away forgetting about this unpleasant effect.
You play a video to have all bybes look at it and say waavooo what a sexy model was that. It sounds and plays great.

Quality organizer functions

It’s more a corporate phone than a personal phone. It has support for all of the attachments that we get in our email and we use in our daily walk of life.

Good pictures

1.3.2 mega pixel camera with 2X zoom and a good resolution and adjustable brightness and contrast features makes picture capture great. If you don’t know to adjust the brightness and contrast then you are going to have a very bad time as if you do it wrongly the image quality will not be good. Better leave it with its default settings.

Thought it had a many drawback comments and negative reviews online I bought it. I have not used a touch screen modal so I was carried away by this Nokia 7710 modal. So for the same reason I dint bother about the limitations of this model. In the below section I am evaluating its drawbacks of this mobile.

Overall slow system

Solution is type *#0000# and find the OS version and firmware version. Install the latest 4.01 version for greater fast access to applications. It is recommended that you keep at least 40MB of Phone memory as free for not compromising better response time.

To install the latest software contact your nokia support center near by.

Usability problems:

If you learn the short cuts and single click access methods it’s a bit easy. It is surely not that easy to use mobile model. You can dial with one hand but to tap the number pad is really a sexy thing to do. But this modal looks royal in your hand. What else is needed more than this. Just buy and keep it in your hands for this reason J

Yellow cast on the display

Most of the cases you wont find this happen. But if this happens restart your mobile. Have full battery charged and switch off your mobile and keep it for charging. As soon as the mobile is completely charged take the current off.
Slow searching in the phonebook I have more than 157 contacts in my phone. Exactly I have 158 contacts J i.e. Greater than 157 its not slow. All contacts has pictures and more details like company name , last name etc. The Phone book is not slow.

It is not always possible to use it without the stylus

With our stylus will spoil your mobile display. Most of the time you find hard to take the pen. It fixes stiff into the sides that you must be cool and calm such that you take it easily. If you hurry the stylus is not going to come so soon out of its place.

Bad ergonomics in some cases

If any in such conditions try restarting the mobile, else change the profile, close all open
applications, do all sorts of Research and development before you give up and give it to the service centre. Just believe you can do it. I had many such problems and I resolved it myself. I will accept that in some cases the fitness for purpose may not hold good. If it happens then too very rare cases mind you. I had such problem only for the 7th time by now I bought the mobile 6 months passed.

Recommendation: If you are a really a good technical person and can use all the features in this mobile then buy it. If this moibile is used with out internet connection its a real waste to use it. Internet is its strength and I recommend you to atleast check your email in this. You can also download torrnets and patches for your micorsoft windows Vista , Avast Anti-Virus etc. as i did.

Its a great model for internet lovers. This blog is posted using my Nokia 7710 modile. Thanks to this technology and the mobil that suits my information work the best.
